Open Day action

Our Dance and Performing Arts students brought incredible energy to Open Day 2026, with our studios alive throughout the day with technique, choreography, performance and plenty of fun.

The Ballet, Lyrical and Contemporary Dance Company began the day developing their technical skills through a range of phrase work, including port de bras, tendus, échappés, triplets and waltz sequences. Students then applied these skills to the development of both their Ballet and Lyrical routines, focusing on musicality, movement quality and performance.

Our Tap Dance Company also joined the group for the day, embracing a different movement style, developing their skills and contributing to the positive and energetic atmosphere in the studio. Later in the day, our Jazz Dance Company took over, with Year 8 student Taliah Troy demonstrating fantastic leadership throughout the session. Students worked through corner work and static leaps, focusing on refining shapes, dynamics and technical execution before bringing this energy into their Jazz routines. It was a high-energy and exciting way to continue the day!

Meanwhile, Studio 2 hosted a special showing of Mamma Mia! for our touring families. A huge thank you to our Year 11 students, who demonstrated wonderful leadership and touring skills as they welcomed families and led conversations about the Arts and the opportunities at St George’s.

FINALE – Year 12 Drama Solos 

Our Year 12 Drama students took to the stage for FINALE – Year 12 Drama Solo Night, marking one of their final performance opportunities before their Mock and WACE examinations.

Held in Studio 1, the evening showcased the students’ Set Monologue and Candidate’s Choice performances before an audience of family, friends and members of the school community. FINALE represented the culmination of weeks of rehearsal, refinement and individual feedback. Students demonstrated their development as performers through their interpretation of character, use of voice and movement, manipulation of dramatic elements and ability to confidently command the performance space.

The evening was also a celebration of the journey of our graduating Drama students. Across their performances, audiences were treated to a diverse range of characters, theatrical styles and dramatic moments, highlighting the individuality and growth of each performer.

Our APEx Drama students also played an important role in the evening, taking on MC responsibilities and helping guide audiences through the program, while Archie presented a special showcase performance.

Congratulations to all of our Year 12 Drama students on reaching this significant milestone. FINALE was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their creativity, courage and commitment to Drama as they prepare for the final stages of their Year 12 journey.

We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and wish them every success in their upcoming examinations.

Semester Two Drama and Dance Practical Mock Exams

Year 12 ATAR Dance students will complete their Practical Mock Examination on Thursday 10 September externally, while our Year 12 ATAR Drama students will complete their Practical Mock Examination on Friday 11 September externally. These external examination experiences provide students with an invaluable opportunity to perform under formal exam conditions, apply the feedback and preparation undertaken throughout the year, and build confidence ahead of their final WACE practical examinations.

We wish all of our Year 12 students the very best of luck. Trust in your preparation, perform with confidence and enjoy the opportunity to showcase all that you have achieved!

Commedia dell'Arte

Year 9 Drama students have been exploring the lively and influential world of Commedia dell'Arte, a form of Italian theatre that originated in the 16th century. Through practical workshops, students have discovered the distinctive stock characters, exaggerated physicality, masks and improvisational techniques that make the theatrics so unique.

Students have embraced the challenge of bringing characters such as Arlecchino, Pantalone, and Il Dottore to life, developing their performance skills through movement, voice, and comic timing. The unit has encouraged creativity, collaboration, and confidence, culminating in a series of entertaining performances that showcased both their understanding of the genre and their growing theatrical abilities.

Angelico Exhibition visit

Out Year 9 Art students enjoyed a walk to the Angelico Art Exhibition at the Forrest Centre, Perth, to explore a creative space filled with colour, curiosity and imagination. Featuring artworks by students from Year 1 to Year 12, the exhibition offered a wonderful snapshot of artistic growth through the years.

There was something to spark everyone’s interest, from thought-provoking works exploring social commentary and identity to humorous, quirky ceramics. 

Our students enjoyed talking about the artworks, sharing their interpretations and discovering the many different ways other student artists can communicate through materials and ideas. They were particularly inspired by the work of older students, seeing first-hand the exciting possibilities that await them as their own creative journeys develop.

The visit was a wonderful reminder that the Visual Arts is about much more than making - it is about experimenting, asking questions, expressing ideas and seeing the world in new ways.

Music News – congratulations to our pianists

Congratulations to piano students Henry Bell, Louis Huang, Peter Tindale and Angus Hevron who took part in the AngliSchools Piano Competition. It was wonderful to see such a high standard of musicianship, with students performing confidently and showcasing their hard work, dedication and love of music. Well done to everyone who participated!

Middle Years Vocal Evening

Yesterday we showcased the wonderful vocal talent of our Year 7–9 students at our Middle Years Vocal Evening. This was a fantastic opportunity for our younger vocalists to share their progress, build confidence and perform for an audience. 

Battle of the Bands is next week!

Get ready for an exciting night of music as Battle of the Bands takes over 441 Murray Street at 6.00pm on Tuesday 8 September! Our House Rock Bands and House Choirs will go head-to-head in a fun and energetic night of live performance.

Come along and support our musicians as they battle it out for House points and musical glory!

AngliSchools Choir Day – 21 Sept

Looking ahead, our secondary singers will come together on Monday 21 September for the AngliSchools Secondary Choir Day. Students from across our AngliSchools community will spend the day singing, rehearsing and collaborating as we begin preparations for the 2027 AngliSchools Combined Concert.

It promises to be a wonderful day of music-making and collaboration as we bring together talented young singers from across our schools.

Mandela Talent Show

To finish the term on a high note, our students will take to the stage for the Mandela Charity Day Talent Show on the last day of term. We are looking forward to seeing the incredible range of talent across our school community, with students sharing their musical and performance skills in support of this important charity event. It will be a fantastic way to celebrate the end of a busy and exciting term in Music!
