Kitchen News

From Erin Reynolds, SAKG teacher

Well done Year 3’s !

The Year 3’s have continued to improve their cooking skills over the last few weeks in the kitchen. There has been lots of great teamwork, collaboration and job sharing in their teams, working together to produce some delicious dishes. They have been practicing their measuring skills and recipe reading to make a variety of meals including spiced potatoes and silverbeet with turmeric rice, two kinds of carrot muffins and finally fresh handmade pizza.

A big thank you to all our parent volunteers in the kitchen this term, we appreciate your support of the kitchen garden program at NMPS. The kids have really enjoyed sharing their kitchen experience with you and we hope to see you back in 2027! Special thank you also to our resident kitchen photographer Esther for your wonderful photo collages capturing all the action in the kitchen.

A few comments from the classes.

“I really enjoyed tearing the yellow silverbeet stem off, it made a weird but satisfying sound”

“ The spiced potatoes were so good. They were a bit spicy, they had millions of flavours because they were spiced with garam masala. The indian yellow rice was yellow because of the turmeric”

“ We made Indian yellow rice and spiced potatoes. We all took turns mixing the rice on the stove. A new word I learned was turmeric. ”
