Year 6 News

From Ben Frater, Year 6 Teacher and students of 6A
Do you want to build a Snowman?
It's been a busy end to term 3 in year 6. Ski camp, Interschool basketball and the first week of high school practice.
Ski Camp
During Week 8, year 6 had Ski Camp at Mount Buller. Although it looked initially quite grim with no sign of snow at all on the bus ride up to the summit. Everyone was relieved when reaching the ski village that there was snow and there would be some actual skiing taking place. Over the course of the week every grade would hit the slopes or should I say slope (Bourke Street) at Mount Buller and have a fantastic time learning to ski and putting it to good use by tearing down the slope at great speeds with very few wipeouts. Overall it was a fantastic experience as the lodges were warm and comfortable and the camp food spectacularly very good. Here are some recounts from students in 6A on their experiences at Ski camp.

On Wednesday the 2nd of September I went to ski camp and once we arrived we put our bags and headed off to gear up. It took a while to get good at skiing but it was worth it on the first day skiing for me was a bit tricky I couldn’t brake that easily so it was a bit of a challenge but I started to get the hang of it and on the 2nd day I became better and I learnt some flashy moves to show my friends. I failed some but I landed some tricks and I was enjoying it. On the last day I was a bit sad that we had to leave so I had to make it count, on the first and second day I was a bit scared to hit the jump but I had to do it because I wouldn’t go to bed right so I built up all my courage and did the jump I closed my eyes and then I landed it and my friends cheered me and I felt good. In the end I realised that this was probably a one in a lifetime opportunity to be around my friends and ski together, talk together late at night, run around and what makes this trip even better is that I realised it was my first time skiing and Improved even when I wanted to quit I kept going and I eventually became great at skiing.

Ski camp was amazing , we had lots of fun . First we arrived at school around 6 then we all said bye to our parents and headed off. The drive was about 3hrs and 30 mins - 4 hrs when we arrived we put are stuff away had a safety talk and went to the mountain first we got are gear and then we found our instructors and started to learn at first it was hard then it became really easy by the second day most people where skiing down the mountain and heading back up on the lifts. The best part was after our lessons we had so much time to free ski with our friends. On the second night we had a movie on and did trivia then. It was so fun!
