News from the Library

Here we are at the end of another term! Book Week was a huge hit again this year, three new Library leaders started training, and we hosted the first Community Book Club. The theme for Book Week 2027 is Catch the Reading Bug and we are excited to incorporate it into a broader theme across next year. Watch out for updates! Best wishes for the holidays.
15 Minutes a Day
Is all it takes to develop a reading habit and increase your reading stamina. An article in The Guardian this month has the title “Singapore pays people to pick up a book in battle against doomscrolling” and talks about the Singapore government attempt to encourage its citizens to develop sustainable reading habits.
The aim is to “improve concentration, critical thinking and the imagination of Singaporeans”. Why not try it yourself over the holidays – a small amount to time each day can reap huge rewards!
Wantirna College stars on Behind the News!
Recently students at Wantirna College were given the opportunity to ask a lawyer questions on the ABC Behind the News program.
Two episodes were made - links to them are below with the names of the starring students. Not everyone who asked a question made it to the show, but thank you to everyone who participated!
A reminder that the BTN show is a great way to keep up to date with current affairs - some recent articles cover Cultural Burning, Bird Flu, Climate Migration, and What is The Odyssey? Check out BTN High here
Artisan of the Month
Congratulations to Liam Orlandi for winning the August Artisan of the Month, and to Aanchai for winning in the Family and Friends section.
We love seeing entries from the school community! Entries are open for the final AotM, so why not spend the holidays getting in touch with your creative side – painting, knitting, welding, photographing, building or cooking are just some ways to let yourself shine.
Personally, I’m going to try and make time to pick up my watercolours again, wish me luck! Submissions can be sent to library@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au with the subject line Artisan of the Month. Include an image of your entry and please state in the email "I declare that this entry is all my own work" Past entries can be viewed in the Gallery in the Artisan of the Month channel, Library Team page.
Library Leaders
Our Library Leaders continue to help make the Library shine! At the end of each term we hold a thank you morning tea, and this term we welcomed 3 new students to the team – Alex, Akanksha and Kaley.
Community Book Club
A quick reminder that Community Book Club is currently reading Flames, by Robbie Arnott. Looking forward to talking about it next term!
