Year 7 Visual Art

Students in 7S have been busy completing their Observational Still Life Drawings. As a class, we have been exploring how to set up different compositions within an artwork, and how the composition of our objects changes the experience for the viewer. Students selected their objects, planned their compositions, chose their desired material, and worked towards their artistic goals.

The students have also been learning about the elements of art and how artists use these techniques to communicate meaning and emotion in their artworks. You will see a variety of different ways these have been used by the students, and the outcomes are really interesting and unique. It’s great to see the individual creativity in the work by 7S. Make sure to keep an eye out in the A-Block corridors to see their work displayed!

Year 9 and 10 Ceramics

We have more results from the kiln!

Students have been finalising their hand-building projects this term and have gotten some incredible results from the glaze firings. Across both classes this term, students have been developing their hand-building skills by creating pinch pots, coil pots, and slab pots.

These skills can be transferred to create a wide variety of objects and artworks, from hamburgers to animals and beyond. The students are now focusing on learning surface decoration techniques and are exploring different ways to add visual interest to their ceramic artworks.

Year 7 Digital Tech Cybersecurity Challenge

Year 7 students have recently been learning about how to protect themselves online, through completing the Grok Cybersecurity School’s Challenge. Each lesson of the interactive course looks at a different ways to keep safe online. These include:

Purposeful Sharing of Information: Students put their detective work to the test and unpacked where users have shared too much information about themselves online.

Passwords: Students learned about multifactor authentication and the importance of creating complex passwords in an evolving digital world.

Phishing: Students looke at online scams and how to detect attempts at stealing your data.

Upon successful completion of the course, students received a certificate. Students then used what they learnt to create an informative product as either a presentation, comic or animations.
