Year 8 Geology

Science

Our Year 8’s are embodying Geologists in our current topic. They are learning about the Earth’s Resources, Rock types and how our landscapes change over time due to weathering and erosion.

The students are conducting a series of practical investigations during this topic to model and research how Earth is changed. The practical pictured below has students testing different methods of weathering and erosion to determine which is the most destructive. The students concluded that the sugar cube (used to represent rocks) that was shaken with water had the most change compared to just being shaken or just having water added.

The classes are very excited for this topic and are eager to try all the practicals. Keep an eye out in the next newsletter to see how they go modelling the Rock Cycle with lollies!
