KIOSC Digital Tech Program

Visual Arts & Technology - Year 1

Our Year 10 students recently had the opportunity to attend an exciting program at KIOSC, where they explored real-world applications of Digital Technologies through hands-on workshops.

Across the two sessions, students rotated through Cyber Manufacturing Hack and Train the Network, giving them the chance to experience different sides of the tech industry.

In Cyber Manufacturing Hack, students investigated how robotic systems are used in modern manufacturing lines. They worked through coding challenges to build and modify programs that simulated real-world assembly processes, gaining insight into how automation helps industries operate efficiently.

During Train the Network, students explored how locations and systems are connected through networks. They examined how data moves between places and applied their understanding to practical scenarios, showing how networks play a major role in everyday life.

The program linked directly to the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and gave students the chance to build problem-solving, collaboration and coding skills in a practical environment. It was fantastic to see our Year 10s step outside the classroom, challenge themselves, and engage so positively with emerging technologies. Some student reflections included:

“I liked how we got to code robots and see how factories use technology.”

“Train the Network was fun because it showed how everything is connected.”

“It was different to normal classes because we got to learn by doing.”

“Coding trains to follow a route was fun.”

“It made me think about jobs in technology in the future.”
