Principal Team Editorial

It’s been a smooth start to Term 2 with students and staff settling back into routines and focused on learning. Our year level assemblies over the last two weeks have been focused on reiterating the high expectations of behaviour, learning and attendance which has been evident in classrooms across the College.
NAPLAN Results
This week, our 2026 NAPLAN data was released with pleasing results. Our Year 9 Reading and Numeracy results showed that 76.89% (Reading) and 79.02% (Numeracy) of students achieved in the Strong and Exceeding proficiency levels, with 24.43% of our Year 9’s being in the Exceeding proficiency level – that’s nearly a quarter of our Year 9 students!
Research supports that one of the strongest predicators for successful VCE outcomes is Year 9 Reading NAPLAN data which makes us very optimistic that we are on track to ensure our students are supported to achieve their very best.
As I discussed with staff this week, this data reinforces that we are focused on the right things in the classroom and we will continue to focus on high quality practice where every minute in the classroom counts.
Anzac Day Assembly
A highlight of week 1 this term, was undoubtedly the ANZAC Day assembly. This year, we invited parents/carers and Salford Park residents to join us for the first time.
Mr John Coleson, a former Vietnam Veteran who later became the Principal of Wellington Secondary College, was one of our special guest speakers. John told us the story of the Unknown Soldier who is symbolic of all soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Furthermore, John likened the Unknown Soldier to all men and women who work in the service industry from nurses, SES, paramedics, police and the respect they deserve for putting their lives on the line to serve their communities.
As the leader of Humanities, Luke Mason said at the beginning of the assembly, in uncertain and unpredictable times such as these, it’s important that we come together to remember the spirit of the ANZACs and embody the values of mateship, service and courage to unite and find strength in our community.
Following our assembly, our Salford Park residents and parent/carers provided glowing feedback about our guest speakers and were impressed by the outstanding behaviour and respect of our students.
A special shout out to our College Captains for their professionalism in hosting the assembly, our College Choir and Blake Mackenzie for his trumpet skills in the Last Post.
