With a cast of 64, Norwood’s 2026 Musical Production is the biggest yet!
The preparation and construction of set and prop pieces for this year’s Musical Production are shaping up spectacularly. The Year 11 VM students, under the leadership of Mr Cusack, continue to deliver high quality work, including tables, masses of love (hearts), and a great pile of 'crix pix crucifix' and candle 'shticks' (large and small). Meanwhile, the Year 12 class has been industriously working on larger set pieces: a couple of bars, a few cars, and a juke box, and refashioning the Anastasia arches (again – we love recycling) into church windows.
Rehearsals for Sister Act have been flying along with the vocals, choreography and blocking. The ensemble is singing up a storm to meet the challenges of this eclectic score, which combines disco, choral, soul and gospel music – a massive challenge for our leads, mobsters, ensemble, the superfluity of nuns, and for Rachel our intrepid choral director. Everyone is excited by Hayley Tonkin’s choreography of the large ensemble and the specialist Fantasy Dancers – it is all so ‘fine and fabulous, baby’.
Alongside all this, our costumers are building a bounty of sharp and sparkly 70s attire, and a full complement of habits and wimples – to get the boogie into your soul.
It is no small challenge to get 64 students and all the set and prop pieces onto the stage for the ensemble scenes, but we are giving it a mighty good crack and hope to impress audiences in August with the energy and talent of our wonderful cast.
