Year 9/10 Girls State Quarter Finals Cricket

Mrs Kathy Berg

The Year 9/10 girls cricket team travelled up to Bendigo on Wednesday 6/11/24 for their matchup against Catherine McAuley College from the outskirts of Bendigo. This was the state cricket quarter finals, and the girls were led by Dakota Edmonds of year 9. The girls lost the toss and were sent into bat. We managed 89 from our 20 overs only losing 4 wickets. Dakota showcased her class against a good bowling attack displaying brilliant backfoot play, cutting and pulling her way to a chanceless 60 not out. She was well supported by Lily McKinlay who displayed a great deal of courage facing some quick bowlers and protected her wicket at a time when we needed a partnership.

We then headed to the field where all our bowlers impressed, Molly Strickland, Evie Gardham, Evie Loughland, and Peyton Lafite all starred taking wickets. We were equally impressive in the field hanging onto all our catches.

Special mention to Molly Strickland and Lily McKinlay who were brick walls in the field stopping and catching some hard-hit shots from the batters.

Despite our best efforts we managed 7 wickets before Catherine McAuley passed our score, however the girls should be extremely proud of themselves for a non-cricketing team to make it to state, and with all players contributing and playing a role on the day.

Well done girls, superstars!!!!
