VM Big Issue Classroom Challenges Stereotypes about Homelessness
Ms Kami Gillick-Lewis
Year 11 VM PDS students visited ‘The Big Issue Classroom’ on Monday October 21st where they learnt about marginalisation, community & employment initiatives for homeless people. Students participated in an educational workshop challenging stereotypes about homelessness.
After participating in a series of learning activities involving collaboration, team work and problem solving students listened to a heart felt anecdotal story from one of the Big Issue vendors who shared her whole life story about her journey through homelessness to employment at The Big Issue. The excursion allowed students to connect with their local community and meet their Personal Development Skills community engagement outcomes. Well done VM students!
