State Cross Country Results
Sport
On Thursday 16th of July I had the pleasure of attending to the State Cross Country championships at the Yarra Glen Racecourse to watch Victoria's best school-aged cross country runners compete. Wantirna had a total of six athletes qualify, however a couple of late withdrawals due to illness/injury meant we had four athletes compete.
Our highlight of the day was Chloe Grund, who won the State Cross Country championships for the third time in a row!!

Chloe won the 14 Year Girls in a time of 11 minutes 10 seconds on a wet/muddy track!
Chloe blew her competition away and won by approximately 9 seconds. Chloe was able to improve her time from last year by 22 seconds which is a testament to herself and her coach. We congratulate Chloe as a three times Time State Cross Country champion.
Other results of the day included three athletes who qualified for the State championships for the first time:
Ashlyn Frangos competed in the 12-13 Girls, ran a time of 14.41 and finished 84th, congratulations Ashlyn on an exciting start to your Cross Country career at Wantirna.
Lukas Nguyen, who has improved considerably within the last 12 months, competed in the 14 Boys, ran a time of 11.16 and finished 25th in an extremely competitive race. This is only the beginning of an exciting cross country career for Lukas.
Harry Hayes, competed in the 16 Boys (who run 5km instead of 3km) and ran a time of 18.58, finishing 47th and overtaking multiple athletes in the final 200m with a strong finish. No doubt we will see Harry at future Cross Country events next year and beyond.
Congratulations once again to these four Wantirna College Athletes for not only qualifying for the State Championships, but also for giving their best effort on the day and being a fantastic representative of Wantirna. A special mention to the families who came and supported on the day - your support makes all the difference!
See you all at the Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 4th August at Knox Athletics Track!
