Group 21

Group 21 have worked very hard throughout Term 1 as they settled into the new school year and continued their learning journey. A strong focus this term has been on building positive, trusting relationships alongside developing confidence and engagement.

We began the term by getting to know one another and exploring individual interests. Students shared what they enjoy, including activities such as playing sports, drawing, and reading. We spent time participating in these activities together so students could share their interests with the other learners. One interest that everyone in Group 21 has in common is swimming! Monday swimming lessons with Chris and Fiona have quickly become a highlight of the week.

 

Another key focus this term has been developing life skills to support increasing independence. Students practised setting placemats with cutlery and dishes, folding towels, pairing and folding socks, and later progressed to folding tea towels and t‑shirts. Group 21 has also been learning how to dry dishes and pack a bag for swimming. We hope students will be able to practise and use some of these skills at home as well.

 

Communication has also been a major focus this term. Students have been supported to communicate using a range of modalities, including speech, visual symbols, and Key Word Sign (a simplified form of Auslan). We have been practising ways to express wants, preferences, and needs, including indicating when they would like more of something or when they are finished.

 

Throughout the term, Group 21 has enjoyed positive learning experiences in Art with Stacy, Music with Chrissy and P.E. with Dom. We have also begun spending time in the garden, exploring different textures, and observing what we can see in the outdoor environment.

 

We are very proud of the effort Group 21 has shown this term and look forward to continuing their learning journey in the coming terms.
