4/5/6 Mainstream

It has been a busy and exciting term of learning for our Grade 4/5/6 students!

In Reading, students have been immersed in Literature Circles, choosing their own novels and forming mini book clubs where they summarise, make connections, share predictions and engage in rich discussions about their texts.

Charlotte says: “I’m reading Catching Teller Crow and it's a murder mystery novel. It’s so interesting and mysterious. We’ve nearly finished the book and we’re so excited to find out how the story is resolved!”

Oliver says: “My lit circle book is good, I’m reading the 1000 year old boy. It’s quite a long book but the chapters are very short. The story has lots of changes and lots of jumps back in time because they go back through the 1000 year old boy’s memories!”

In Writing, students are exploring the Hero’s Journey, learning about its key stages before planning and crafting their own hero’s journey stories.

Bea says: “I really like how we get to design all these characters, I think that’s really fun!”

Louie says: “I like creating the characters because you get to add all your own ideas and choose how it looks!”

In Maths, students have just begun a new unit on Angles, following their learning about fractions.

Milo says: “We’ve been learning about angles, I’m finding it easy at the moment because I learnt about it last year but I think it’s actually fun!”

Florina says: “I like learning how to use the protractors! That was fun!”

Across our Unit Focus, students are working on Discovery Projects, choosing a topic, question or wondering that sparks their curiosity and diving deep into research to uncover explanations and develop their understanding. They will then find creative and engaging ways to share their discoveries with the cohort. There are so many fascinating topics and questions being explored, and we can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes them!

Santi says: “I’m doing a project about Cordyceps which is a fungus that takes control of ants!”

Hector says: “I’m researching the question could MJ dunk on Juggernaut?"

Pip says: “My unit focus is a little bit like a debate about whether water is wet or not!”.
