Kii 3/4S families!
In Main Lesson, we have continued our journey through the epic Finnish poem, the Kalevala. The mysterious Sampo has now been created, and we have reached an exciting point in our story! The students have been making thoughtful predictions about how they think the tale will unfold, drawing upon their growing understanding of the characters and, importantly, their different motivations, wishes and desires.
As the story continues, we are exploring how these desires shape the choices our characters make and how, in the world of myth and legend, one choice can set a whole chain of events into motion.

In Maths we have wrapped up our unit on angles, with students exploring the idea that an angle is a measure of a turn. We learned that each angle is made up of a vertex and two rays, and investigated how angles can be classified according to their size. Students also had the opportunity to practise measuring angles using a protractor.
Our next unit will turn our attention to Multiplication. To keep the learning flowing at home, it’d be the perfect time to pull out those classic times tables posters! I have some smaller printed and laminated versions you can borrow for home if needed too. We encourage you to join in the fun with some skip, counting, times-tables challenges and multiplication games together.
This fortnight in Gardening, we explored the fascinating world of fungi and discovered how they differ significantly from other forms of plant life. Emily introduced us to a variety of fungi that we might encounter, and students had the opportunity to observe some closely under the microscope.
We also spent time drawing mushrooms and getting our hands into the garden, helping with general gardening and maintenance. To continue our exploration of fungi, Emily provided us with a Gourmet Mushroom Grow Kit. We carefully set ours up and have already harvested our first crop, we are now onto our second grow cycle! It has been wonderful to watch our mushrooms emerge and grow, giving us a little window into the fascinating world of fungi right in our classroom.
