This week we finished hearing the stories of King Maximo and his number Knights. The story concluded with the King and all the Knights realising that all the numbers were interesting and none more than the other. The children have spent the rest of this week exploring the numbers from 1 to 12 and the different ways these numbers work together. 

Many of the ways we engage in numbers is through playing games and using items we have in the classroom to give the children a hands-on experience of the numbers before we began the abstract notions of using the numerals.

Some of the ways this learning can be supported at home is through observations in your neighbourhood such as numbers on letter boxes or while out walking you could model counting how many steps it takes to get to the end of the street or to the front door. All these ways help bring your children's awareness that numbers are all around us.

Next week we will be starting a new unit of work on fairy tales and folk tales which allow us to develop writing and reading skills working with the  children's imagination.
