ART

We had a great start to term three as children were very excited to see all their clay shoes fired and ready to be painted. They are so colourful and beautifully painted. The students spent a few sessions refining the details and adding the final touches to their clay work. They are going to look amazing in our shoe shop display for the Arts Festival in term four.

We then started on our Aboriginal textile unit. We are focusing on the mother and daughter duo, Miimi and Jiinda. They are one of the most successful Aboriginal textile artists, with a showing at the Paris Fashion week this year. (More info below)

Students are creating paintings inspired by the colours and designs of their art works, focusing on traditional Aboriginal symbols and pattern making. We are learning all about colour in the art room this term, focusing on warm and cool colours. Students will work with a reduced colour palette in their work. Students will also have the opportunity to use gel art plates to make Miimi and Jiindi inspired prints.

The photos give you a glimpse of what the kids have been creating.

We are now preparing for the Arts festival in term two. Note the date has changed due to building works that are taking place.

The new festival date is Saturday 17th October.

We then started on our knitting unit for classes 3 to 6. Students have been given the choice this year to make fashion themed items to link in with our art room fashion theme. Some students have decided to knit bags, hand warmers, beanies, and fingerless gloves. I am so impressed with the knitting progress so far. Students are very excited as they get to design and wear their knitted items. Students in prep/one have been learning finger knitting and making pompoms. We are now going on to make hessian stitched bags which is going to be a great learning experience for the students.
