Foundation

This fortnight, Foundation students continued with the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), further developing essential fundamental motor skills such as balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. In addition, they participated in a fun one-off catching session, working one-on-one with some Year 6 students. It was fantastic to see the older students helping guide and support their younger peers, creating a positive and engaging learning experience for all involved.

Year 1

The Year 1 students took on a creative challenge this fortnight by designing and completing their own obstacle courses. The focus was on teamwork, communication, and creativity, as students collaborated to build and navigate their courses using a variety of equipment. It was wonderful to see students working together, offering encouragement, and demonstrating persistence as they moved through each challenge.

Year 2

Building on their teamwork from last fortnight, Year 2 students focused on partner catching skills. Using a volleyball net, students learned how to play a simplified version of Newcombe, a fun volleyball-style catching game. The activity required accuracy, quick reactions, and communication, while reinforcing their catching and underarm throwing skills in a game-based setting.

Year 3

Students in Year 3 concluded their Newcombe unit, building on their understanding of court movement, and volleyball rotations. With an emphasis on spatial awareness and positioning, students became more confident in both attacking and defending during gameplay. Following this, we moved into our new Soccer unit, where students played Single Cone Block Soccer, a fun and fast-paced individual activity designed to develop kicking accuracy and introduce basic strategic thinking. This activity challenged students to aim precisely while considering how to outplay their opponent using timing and control.

Year 4

This fortnight marked the conclusion of our Newcombe unit in Year 4. Students focused on game structure, including learning how to rotate positions during play, an important aspect of traditional volleyball. They also refined their underarm serves, improved their catching and striking accuracy and worked on court awareness and teamwork during modified game play. It was fantastic to see their confidence and understanding of the game grow.

Following this, we began our Hot Shots Tennis unit. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of playing a game with a partner, with a focus on drop serves and forehand striking. Using our tennis nets, they practised rallying with a partner and learned how to control the ball to keep it in play. The emphasis on technique and consistency allowed students to build both skill and confidence in a supportive and engaging environment.

Year 5Year 5 shifted focus from physical activity to health education, beginning a unit on nutrition. Students learned about the five food groups and the importance of incorporating a variety of foods into a balanced meal. Through interactive discussions and activities, students explored how good nutrition fuels the body for both learning and physical activity. We also shared what we ate over the long weekend!

Year 5

Students have been engaging thoughtfully with our Health unit on nutrition. This week, they began creating their own examples of a balanced plate, which we will continue to build on next week. The discussions around healthy food choices, calorie intake, and "sometimes foods" have sparked meaningful conversations and encouraged students to reflect on their own eating habits. It's been fantastic to see how curious and open they are in exploring what makes a nutritious and balanced meal.

Year 6

Year 6 students continued their Rugby unit and began playing more competitive team games. The focus this fortnight was on applying strategies in both offense and defense. Students explored how to position themselves to support teammates, create space, and maintain possession of the ball. Their teamwork and enthusiasm were on full display, with many students taking on leadership roles during game play.

CBS District Athletics Day – Coming Up in Term 3!

We are thrilled to announce that our CBS District Athletics Day is fast approaching and will take place on Tuesday, August 20th (Term 3, Week 6)!

This is an exciting opportunity for selected students in Years 3–6 to represent our school with pride as they compete against other local schools in a variety of track and field events. We’ve seen fantastic effort and sportsmanship from our students during our school-based athletics trials and we can’t wait to see them shine on the big stage.

Important Reminder for Parents/Carers:If your child has been selected to attend, please ensure you log in to Compass to provide payment and consent as soon as possible. This helps us confirm all entries and make sure everything is in place for a smooth and successful day.
