Reading
To build comprehension skills in reading, Foundation students have been exploring stories like My First Day of School and Thai’s Big Adventure in the City. They practised making connections to their own experiences and using clues from the text to make predictions about what might happen next. Students have been enjoying books such as Theodore the Unsure and The Old Ship to share their connections and predictions with the class. The Foundation students also continued to enhance their word building skills through exploring new sounds including x and qu.

Inquiry
As the family inquiry unit concludes for this term, Foundation students reviewed what it means to feel like they belong and why having a place of belonging is important. Students have also begun exploring the topic of families by thinking about what they enjoy doing together. Through class discussions and shared reading, they discovered that families can look different and change over time. Students reflected on the similarities and differences between our families and others, and practised showing empathy and respect for all kinds of family structures.
