Unit 2 Biology Excursion
In week 3 of this term the unit 2 Biology students attended the Melbourne Aquarium to learn more about marine animals and their many varied adaptations. During the excursion the students observed King and Gentoo Penguins, Sharks and Coowonga the Saltwater Crocodile. Students also had the opportunity to engage with Starfish, shells and shark eggs in the rockpool zone, helping students to learn more about invasive species in these ecosystems.
Throughout their time at the aquarium, students had the chance to ask questions to deepen their understanding of adaptations and ecosystems. Well done to all the students who participated in the day!
Unit 4 Biology Excursion
On Wednesday 22nd of July, unit 4 Biology students went on an excursion to Melbourne University to visit the School of Biosciences and participate in a laboratory workshop.
Students completed two activities. First, they investigated the evidence for evolutionary change in Drosophila melanogaster. In the second activity students examined immunity using influenza as a case study.
The excursion provided students with a hands-on experience with modern scientific techniques. Throughout the session, students had the chance to ask questions of the laboratory staff and university demonstrators, gaining a valuable experience in what a practical laboratory class would be like at university.
All students worked extremely well, showing enthusiasm and engagement during the excursion.
