Year 7 Goes to the Zoo

On Monday (18 August) and Tuesday (19 August) in Week 6, the Year 7 cohort made a morning bus trip to Werribee Open Range Zoo. Arriving bright eyed and bushy tailed (all though not as bushy tailed as some of the Zoo's inhabitants), the students captured video footage for their upcoming documentaries on their chosen animal. Students also partook in learning about the endangered Orange-bellied parrot, and were confronted about the dangers this endangered species faces. They worked together to see how the loss of one species can affect a whole ecosystem’s food web and talked about ways humans could mitigate this. Students also enjoyed a safari ride seeing giraffes, rhinos, water bucks and for one group, an ostrich that was trying to escape out a broken gate! This annual pilgrimage of Strathomore Year 7 science students was once again a day enjoyed by all.
