Moonee Valley Neighbourhood Policing Form
Traveling to and from school and through local shopping strips
Napier Street and our other local shopping strips are shared community spaces, and we ask all students to move through these areas carefully, remain aware of pedestrians and local businesses, and demonstrate respectful and responsible behaviour at all times.
Moonee Valley Neighbourhood Watch has contacted the school to remind students and families about the importance of the safe and responsible use of e-bikes, e-scooters, bicycles, scooters and skateboards. Students are reminded to dismount and walk these devices when travelling along footpaths.
Our footpaths are shared by people of all ages and abilities, including young children, older members of our community and those with reduced mobility. In addition to being a legal requirement for e-scooters and e-bikes, and in many situations for non-electric devices (see links to the Transport Victoria road rules below), dismounting and walking these devices on footpaths and busy pedestrian areas demonstrates courtesy, respect and consideration for others while helping to keep everyone safe in our community.

Students who wait at the bus stop on Woodland Street, near St Vincent de Paul Primary School, are also reminded to keep the footpath clear for younger students and families leaving the school at the end of the day. Walking past a large group of older students can be overwhelming for young children, so leaving plenty of space and behaving calmly and respectfully is a considerate and positive way to support our neighbouring school community.
When travelling to and from school, students represent both themselves and Strathmore Secondary College. By demonstrating behaviours consistent with the school's behaviour expectations and PRIDE values, students contribute to a safe, respectful and welcoming community. We thank the many students who model these behaviours every day and encourage their peers to do the same. This message is also a reminder to all students of the school’s expectations when travelling to and from school, and we ask families to reinforce the importance of being respectful, considerate and safe pedestrians and transport users.
Ready to Ride Webinar – Tues 8 September, 2026
The Better Moves around Schools team shared that Moonee Valley City Council, in collaboration with Victoria Police, Anglicare, the Transport Accident Commission, and the Department of Transport and Planning, has developed a free webinar for Victorian parents and caregivers to raise awareness and encourage safer e-bike and e-scooter use among young people. The webinar focuses on influencing safer behaviours and complements broader education, awareness and enforcement efforts relating to dangerous riding.
