Primary Dental Service visit

The dental service that comes to ICOM has been coming for 9 years, and they have fully qualified dentists and dental assistants coming in vans that are fully kitted out just like a dental clinic.

This year the dental service visited ICOM from 12th - 29th October. During this time they saw 315 students. They see primary students for a check up who have returned their dental form, and then provide any treatment needed. The treatment provided can range from a clean, plaque removal to x-rays and fillings.

The dental service also provides valuable health education around dental health and hygiene. Reinforcing with the students  that parents need to supervise teeth brushing until 9 years old twice a day every day. Tooth decay starts off making the teeth discloured then brown, then to black . Some baby teeth can get holes in them as well, and they still offer treatment.

Some don't realise that poor dental hygiene with baby teeth can cause problems with adult teeth leading to infections, disrupting the natural alignment and leading to over crowding and permanent damage.
