Y7: Davis Creek Excursion

This term our Year 7 students ventured out to nearby Davis Creek in for a hands-on field study excursion, assisted by the college's science faculty.
Students collected water samples and made detailed observations of the creek’s environment using their senses, identifying a range of animals, insects, and habitats along the waterway.
Located in Tarneit, Davis Creek forms part of the Werribee River catchment and is home to wetlands that support local biodiversity, including frogs, ducks, and swallows.
Our students were especially interested in the variety of local bird species, which they observed exhibiting nesting behaviour along the creek banks and under the bridge. These wetlands play a vital role in maintaining the health of our local ecosystem.
Back in the classroom, students used their findings to build a scientific report - testing the pH levels of the water and examining samples under the microscope to identify microorganisms and other particles.
This hands-on learning experience encouraged our students to investigate using their scientific-side, all while reflecting on the importance of caring for Allah’s (SWT) creation and the delicate balance within our natural world.
