From the Year 4 Classroom

Literacy:  We are just about finished the novel Uncle Xbox by Jared Thomas.  A captivating book that has led to great conversations and engagement from students. The students have really engaged with the story and are learning about how Indigenous people have lived over their time in Australia.

In Writing, we will begin publishing our factual recount titled ‘British Settlement and the Effects on First Nations Australians.’ Students have been really engaged during this unit and have deepened their understanding of the history of our country. We have read articles, watched clips and had meaningful conversations about our rich history.

Numeracy: This week we have started learning about common 2D shapes, composite shapes and lines of symmetry in 2D shapes. Please continue practising your times tables at home.

Religion: We are continuing our learning about the First Eucharist and Confirmation. We wish the Sacramental students all the very best. They have done a wonderful job leading up to their big day. A special thank you to the other students who have supported the Sacramental children, and to parents for their support leading up to this important event. On Friday in Week 6, the Sacramental children will attend Spirit Day at the Church, where they will further prepare for their Masses on the weekend. The other students will remain at school and participate in a variety of activities.

You are warmly invited to attend one of the Masses. If your child has a sibling who would like to be part of the choir, please let Mrs. McInness know – remember, it frees up a seat!

 Sunday morning -   9:00am

We are also learning about the Mercy Values – Respect, Hospitality, Compassion, Service, Courage and Justice. As a whole school, we are breaking one value open each week to see how we can live the value.

This week's Mercy value is Hospitality at Sacred Heart I show hospitality when I use people's names when I say hello, I use my manners, I am being a welcoming and friendly person and I welcome new students and treat people equally.

Inquiry: We have been learning about the colonisation in Australia and the effects on Indigenous Australians.

PBIS Focus: We congratulate our Year 4 students on the excellent effort and behaviour they have demonstrated so far, particularly in line with this week’s PBIS focus.

Be Safe – keeping hands, feet and objects to themselves, following the rules, and asking for adult help when needed. Be Respectful – using kind words, including others, and caring for people and property. Be Your Best – trying their hardest, making positive choices, learning from mistakes, and persevering when things feel challenging.
