This term in Numeracy, our Grade 2 students have been developing their mathematical understanding across a range of concepts, including fractions, turns, place value and, most recently, time. This week, students have begun their new learning focus on time. They have been exploring the concept of a year and investigating how time is organised into months, weeks and days. Students have also been learning about the twelve months of the year and making connections between months and the four seasons experienced in Australia. Through discussions, hands-on activities and calendar investigations, students are developing an understanding of how time helps us organise events and routines in our daily lives. As students continue their learning for the rest of the term, they will build on these foundational concepts by exploring different ways to measure and describe time. This learning supports students in making meaningful connections between mathematics and everyday life while developing their confidence in using mathematical language and problem-solving skills.
