This week in STEM grade 6’s learnt about how computers understand data and how it is represented in binary code. Binary numbers are very useful in electronics and computer systems. Digital electronics can easily work with a sort of "on" or "off" system where "on" is a 1 and "off" is a zero. While humans use numbers like 0 to 9, binary only uses two digits: 0 and 1. They learnt the difference between the decimal and binary systems and how each of them work with counting numbers.
There were 11 questions that the grade 6’s completed.
Students showcased:
After this lesson students have a deepened understanding of how computers and digital technologies view and process information, ranging from writing, images, sound and videos.

Following the binary code lesson grade 6’s completed a lesson on spheros and interacting with codeblocks to get the robot to travel along the tables. Understanding a handful of different parameters and how to correctly give the instructions to move the sphero according to the challenge.
