It has been another busy and productive fortnight in Year 6, with students continuing to demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity, and persistence across all learning areas. We are proud of the effort they are putting into their learning and the way they are embracing new challenges. Reading In Reading, students have been focusing on making text-to-world connections. They have been linking ideas and themes from texts to significant current and historical events, important laws, influential figures, and real-world issues. This has encouraged students to think critically about how texts reflect and shape society. Through rich discussions and thoughtful reflections, students are developing a deeper understanding of the connections between literature and the world around them. Writing In Writing, students have begun exploring instructional texts. They are learning how to create clear and effective instructions by carefully selecting precise vocabulary and considering how language can help avoid miscommunication. Students are also investigating how visual elements such as labelled diagrams, images, and step-by-step layouts can support clarity and assist readers in successfully following instructions. We have been impressed by the attention to detail students are demonstrating in their work. Numeracy In Numeracy, students have been developing their understanding of time. They have been practising converting between 12-hour and 24-hour time formats and applying these skills in a range of contexts. Students have also been solving elapsed time problems, using worded scenarios to calculate durations and determine start and finish times. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they apply efficient strategies to solve increasingly complex problems. Inquiry In Inquiry, students have been identifying gaps in the market and designing their own businesses to meet a need within the community. As part of this project, students are making important business decisions, including determining staff numbers, calculating wages and salaries, setting opening hours, and considering other key operational requirements. This authentic learning experience is helping students develop their financial literacy, problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurial thinking while encouraging creativity and innovation. We look forward to finishing the term strongly and celebrating the many achievements and successes of our Year 6 students over the coming weeks.
