Nunawading Basketball Clinics

We have been very fortunate to have some amazing basketball coaches from Nunawading Stadium to take clinics during P.E. over the first two weeks of term. Students have been learning the techniques for dribbling, passing and shooting whilst participating in lots of fun and engaging activities and games.

A huge thanks to Rachel for organising the coaches to visit us and thanks to the following coaches for your fantastic basketball sessions:  Jess, Maddi, Ben, Riley and Kylee.

If would like your child to continue with basketball, Nunawading Basketball offer some great programs.

Summer Inter-School Sport

VOLLEYBALL

In Term 1, I had the privilege of representing Essex Heights Primary School in the volleyball team for inter-school sports. Some of our games were played at other schools, and some were played on our home courts.

Our team included Amiya, Amali, Stevie, Sam, Grace, Isabella, Illary and me. We played seven games and won every single one, which meant we were undefeated!

Every time we stepped onto the court, we had smiles on our faces and were ready to play as a team and have fun. In a few games, we lost the first set, so we had to win the next two sets in a row to take the win. Thanks to our great teamwork and never-give-up attitude, we were able to come back and win those games.

A big thank you to Miss Kemp for being such a great coach. I can’t wait to do it all again at division!

ROUNDERS

The rounders team for 2026 was a great team! We did not win many games, but we learned how to play as a team and learn from each other. We learnt to take our losses as opportunities rather than as something negative, overall last term was a blast!

Region Swimming

Amali S, Harry L and Dimitri P qualified to compete at the Eastern Region Swimming Carnival held on Tuesday 31 March at Aquanation in Ringwood.

On the 31st of March, I had the opportunity to compete at the Region Swimming Championships. On the day, I felt nervous but also very excited. Competing against such strong swimmers from across the region was challenging and inspiring, and it made me feel proud to be there wearing our school colours. I’m happy to share that I came first in my heat and fifth overall in the region, and most importantly, I achieved a personal best, which I am proud of, and a huge congratulations Dimitri and Harry for making such a great effort too.

I would like to thank Mr Perini and Ms Hocking, who were there on the day supporting and encouraging me, as well as my Mum for being there, cheering me on and helping me believe in myself.

This experience taught me that being brave, staying focused, and trying your best really matters. I’m very proud of what I achieved representing Essex Heights and hopefully everyone sharing all their experiences will inspire all of you to give it a go and get amazing achievements too.

Amali – Year 6

Last term I represented our school at the Eastern Region Swimming Carnival in the backstroke event. I competed in the 9/10-year-old boys’ category. I was very happy to achieve a new personal best (PB) of 42 seconds.

I am looking forward to competing in the same age group again next year and I hope to improve my time even more.

Harry – Year 3

On the 31st March, my friends Amali, Harry and me went to Aquanation for our Region Swimming Championships. There were a lot of participants swimming. Sadly none of us made it to State Finals but we all had fun and enjoyed our time there.

I would like to thank Mr Perini and Ms Hocking for being there to support us. I would also like to thank the parents who came to cheer us on.
