ANZAC Day & Commemoration

ANZAC Day was on Saturday 25 April this year. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC Day is an anniversary of the day when Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed in Gallipoli in 1915 as part of the Allies' invasion. It is a public holiday to recognise the contribution and sacrifices of all those who have served Australia in time of war and in war like conflicts. The day is observed with the dawn service, marches and ceremonies across Australia and New Zealand.

A couple of pieces of awesome poetry from Year 6 students:

EVERLASTING

By Nathaniel M, 6W

The body fuelled tunnels,

Deep in the light,

A rifle; sharp as bone,

Won’ go without a fight.

The walls sweat with mud,

Start to rip, start to bend,

It clings to the ankles, a traitor, a friend.

Beautiful flowers,

The promise I swore,

But my mind stuck in a land,

An everlasting war.

PAST TIMES STILL DESTROY

By Lily J, 6R

The poppies cry in never ending rows,

Death of the soldiers who silently sleep.

The rifle smoke flies in the bitter sky,

Trenches dug through mud and snow.

The boys who are supposed to dream in their beds,

Die in fatigue, in smoke.

The iron whistle howls and screams,

Because of the pain, the unanswered dread.

We remember the time in the tunnels, the mud,

A pain patiently waiting to escape.

When all seems right, beauty restored,

All we see is blood.
