Volleyball Victoria Junior Open
Year 8s celebrating their first win
Last week, 68 keen volleyballers attended the Victorian Junior Open at the Dandenong State Volleyball Centre and Eagle Stadium in Werribee. NHS entered nine teams in the tournament, who were coached by our fantastic coaches. Thank you to Alicia Chant, Aila Dekker, Amie Stapleton, Vincent Wang, Miles Clancy, Fred Culham, Connor Murray, Jacqui Barlow, Leila Lavelle, Chiara Vagnarelli, Ella Nance, Jack Donegan, Aaron Fuaux, Minke Cook, Matthew Longden and Kurt Strachan. The tournament would not have run without your hard work!
The coaches and players were fantastic supporting their squad members throughout the week. Congratulations to the Year 7 Girls for winning their second bronze medal this year! Alicia Chant, a past NHS student and volleyballer has been working hard all year developing their skills and confidence, which was highlighted throughout the tournament.
Well done to Luci Silva for setting an NHS serving record which was 23 massive serves a row, that the opposition could not lay a hand on, resulting in 23 straight points for the set.
A huge thank you to all of the staff who helped out throughout the 5 days, including our wonderful bus drivers.
NHS would not be able to run a such successful Volleyball Development Program without the support of so many wonderful staff members willing to attend the tournaments and supervise trainings sessions.
Lastly a quick update from the Gold Coast, where two of our senior teams are competing at the Australian Schools' Cup, a six day, national volleyball tournament. The teams have been training and fundraising hard all year for this fantastic experience, and we wish them all the best in the competition.
Well done to all players involved, we are looking forward to another fantastic volleyball season in 2024.
