Duke of Edinburgh Camp

Adventurous journey in Angelsea

In Week 8 of this term, our 2023 Duke of Edinburgh cohort embarked on their Adventurous Journey to Anglesea! This is the final event that qualifies them for their Bronze Award – and what a way to celebrate their achievements and success! Both groups performed with astounding self-efficacy, emotional maturity and profound reflection,  mixed with a healthy amount of opportunistic learning moments and growth 😉

Prior to departing on the Angelsea Camp, the classes attended a session with Mike and Ben of Real Life Resilience.  The students engaged with great empathy and understanding, and it was great to see how Mike and Ben's presentation helped your toolkit in perceiving situations and being able to "bounce back", despite challenges - and thank you for your sincere words of gratitude to these awe-inspiring visitors.

MASSIVE congratulations to the 2023 cohort on blowing us out of the water!!! Hear from some of our legendary awardees below:

“I really enjoyed the surfing and learning new skills. Being surrounded by nature all the time and getting to cook our own meals on the trangia was really fun.”

Samuel Francis

“We had been looking forward to camp all year, and the experience was even better than we expected. All of the activities were really exciting, and pushed us out of our comfort zones. The beach was beautiful, and we loved the swim after our long day of walking. We learnt lots of cooking skills, and had plenty of good food. We wish the best to next years Duke of Ed students, you will have the best time!”

Eve Walker-O’Connor (9A), Mary Caldwell (9B), and Sienna Wise (9C)

“I really enjoyed camp because we learnt loads of new skills such as surfing, mountain biking, and cooking in the bush. It was so fun being around my mates and it was a good to get closer with all the people in the class. We got to spend the three days outside with our friends and the teachers and it was the highlight of my year. It was a very good experience and I’m so happy I got to go.”

Finn Jeffrey (9I)

“This camp was one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to learn so many new things such as surfing, and I was able to improve my team building skills. Not only was the camp fun but we had the freedom to do almost anything we wanted. Overall it was very enjoyable and would 100% recommend.”

Finlay Hammond (9D)

Also, an INCREDIBLE thank-you to the Awardees COVID-affected in recent prior years; you are incredibly resilient, patient and motivated with award adaptations and logbook renovations – and should be so proud of yourselves – as we are of you. Thank you for paving the way to smooth the process for incoming Awardees – your support has been invaluable. Outstanding items and online log books will be processed during Week 11, with the cessation of timetabled classes.
