Level 4

Level 4 has had another fantastic week of learning!
Literacy
Students have been using reading strategies, such as identifying the main idea, to analyse articles about health messages. They have been learning to pick out the key information, think about what the author is trying to tell the reader and consider how these messages influence people’s decisions.
Students are starting to include counterarguments in their persuasive writing by thinking about what someone with a different opinion might say. They are learning to acknowledge the other side of an argument and explain why they still believe their own point of view. This is helping them to build stronger arguments and make their persuasive pieces more convincing. This week, students are creating their own advertisements to challenge common misconceptions about sun safety, using persuasive language and eye-catching messages to encourage others to make informed choices about protecting themselves from the sun.
Numeracy
Students have been learning about the four quadrants of the Cartesian plane and how to use the x- and y-axes to locate and plot coordinates. They have explored how coordinates change depending on their position within each quadrant and used ordered pairs to create shapes.
Inquiry
In inquiry students have been exploring health messages and looking at how different campaigns encourage people to make healthy choices. Students have been analysing the main ideas, identifying the messages being communicated and discussing how words and images can influence people’s thinking and decisions. They have also been considering how these messages can help people make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
