Foundation

What a fabulous fortnight in Foundation! We went on an excursion and had some special visitors in our classrooms. It has been great to see the students engaging in their learning and making peer connections during shared activities.
Healesville Sanctuary
We had a fantastic time at Healesville Sanctuary last Tuesday 20th October. The weather was kind to us and the students soldiered on even though there were lots of tired legs! We saw lots of Australian animals in their natural habitats, enjoyed watching the Spirits of the Sky Presentation and participated in an educational workshop all about habitats that suit different animals.
Grandparents Morning
It was so lovely to spend time with our Grandparents and Special Friends visitors last Thursday. During the first session, we read 'Grandpa's Slippers', a story about a grandpa who loves his old worn-out slippers and won't wear the new ones Grandma brought him. Working together, students and grandparents designed a new pair of slippers. The second session followed with another craft activity, but this time we read 'Grandpa's Cardigan' and designed a new cardigan. In this story, Grandpa finds a new cardigan to replace his favourite old one that Grandma gave away.
Literacy
Foundation students are getting so clever working with blends and so creative with sharing their knowledge through a crafty activity! This week we made 'st' seascapes - you might be lucky enough to spy some starfish, storks, stingrays or storms in our pictures.
Each week we are reading a different nonfiction text about an Australian animal. Enjoy reading a few examples below under Inquiry.
Numeracy
Last week in Numeracy we finished our topic of grouping and sharing 'fairly'. This week we began looking at collecting data using tally marks. Our next few lessons will be on interpreting the data we collect and displaying our data using different graphs.
Inquiry
FMW have written two information books about the Great White Shark and Tasmanian Devil. Students use their new knowledge to write sentences about the features, diet and habitat while also including a labelled diagram and illustrations to compliment the writing.
