Principal's Report

A Message from Julie...

Congratulations to our Year 6 students George, Patrick, Janelle and Susie who have received a Highly Commended award in this year’s Catholic Education Week Creative Arts Exhibition.

During Year 5, these students participated in a rich and engaging unit exploring Catholic architecture. They investigated how the principles used in designing and constructing churches could be applied within a Minecraft Education creative server. The unit began with an exploration of the significance and sacred nature of churches, cathedrals and basilicas, including a study of Sagrada Família, designed by Antoni Gaudí as pictured.

Students learned about the traditional cross-shaped layout of churches and many incorporated this design into their own Minecraft builds, drawing inspiration from structures such as St Patrick's Cathedral.

Throughout the term, they explored a range of architectural styles including Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and contemporary designs from Australia and around the world. Each lesson provided opportunities for students to experiment with these styles, refine their ideas and progressively develop their own church or cathedral designs.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, dedication and thoughtful learning our students have demonstrated throughout this project and in the competition.

Warm regards,

Julie McDougall
