Prep Highlight

In Prep, we are using Colourful Semantics to help children build clear, simple sentences.
This approach uses colours to represent parts of a sentence:
Who – the person or character
What doing – the action
What – what the action is happening to
For example:
The boy is eating an apple.
The dog is chasing the ball.
This helps children understand sentence structure and move from single words to full sentences.
You can help at home by practising in everyday moments: Ask: Who? What doing? What? Talk about daily activities (“Mum is cutting the cake.”) Look at pictures in books and build simple sentences together.
Can your child verbalise a Who, What Doing and What sentence for this picture?
