Year 6 Highlight

Year 6 Camp Reflection

In Week Eight, our Year Six students went on camp to Phillip Island… and what a camp it was! Equal parts chaos, laughter, growth, and just a tiny bit of sleep deprivation.

We arrived at Phillip Island full of excitement… and were quickly greeted by some pretty ordinary weather. But, in true Year Six fashion, the students just got on with it. No complaints, no fuss - just straight into activities, making the most of every moment. It was great to see that resilience in action (even if a few hoods and soggy socks were involved early on).

Across the three days, the students threw themselves into everything. Whether it was the giant swing, flying fox, or just running around between activities, they gave everything a red hot go. More importantly, they supported each other, encouraged one another, and showed what our Year Six cohort is all about.

A definite highlight was the talent show. We knew we had some talented kids… but we didn’t know we had that many dancers. Some seriously impressive (and unexpected!) moves hit the stage, and it quickly turned into one of those nights where everyone was up, cheering, and fully into it. Safe to say - there are a few hidden performers among us!

We certainly provided the opportunity for sleep. Comfortable lodges, reasonable bedtimes, all the usual structures in place… what students chose to do with that opportunity is another story entirely. Let’s just say there were some very lively cabins and some very tired faces by the end of it!

All jokes aside, we were incredibly proud of the students. They represented the school brilliantly, showed resilience when things weren’t perfect, and embraced the whole experience. Camps like this are about more than just activities, they’re about independence, friendships, and stepping outside comfort zones, and our Year Sixes absolutely delivered.

Thank you for your support in getting them there and ready. We’re sure you enjoyed welcoming home some very happy (and very ready-for-bed) campers.

Student Reflections:

As you all know, the Year 6’s recently had camp in Phillip Island. We went to a camp called CYC The Island and it was a banger! Some of our favourite activities were: The Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Archery, Pinnacle (AKA Rock Climbing) and pedal racers. We are going to tell you all about camp and how much fun we had!

Shenaya

One of my favourite parts of camp was the giant swing. When I was on the giant swing, there were pillars holding the ropes. The ropes went up to 15 metres high and there was also a harness that I was attached to for safety. Then, everyone who wasn’t currently on the giant swing was pulling a rope that lifted me up from the ground all the way up to 15 metres high in a slow, leisurely time. I chose to go up the full 15 metres and before I got dropped I pulled a small, black rope that dropped me really quickly and the first drop was a bit scary, but it wasn’t that scary and I kept swinging from side to side until I eventually lost momentum and came to a stop.

One of my favourite parts of camp was the talent show because we (Sienna, Alanna, Olivia and I) won first place with our dance to the song GOLDEN!!!!! Olivia was dressed up as a unicorn, Alanna and I wore purple and pink hair extensions and Sienna wrapped herself in a burrito blanket and became a taco. We created a fun choreographed routine which included the bike from a just dance, superman and so much other stuff! But in short it was fun and very memorable.

Lana

Something I will always remember is when I did pedal racing and flying fox. Pedal racing was really enjoyable because it was like you were driving a real car and it was like you were racing with a real car. Flying fox was fun because of the height of the flying fox. The speed was the main thing that made flying foxes really fun and I really enjoyed it.

Pranav

A moment that surprised me was when I had the courage to attempt archery and I got the hang of it. I got a bullseye three times and I  could not believe that everyone was cheering for me. Also  I cheered for my opponent even if they didn’t get anything. I made them feel good and brave. I tried my best at this activity and also got extra turns.

Disha

One of my favourite parts of camp was the giant swing because it makes me push myself to my limits and find out my true limits. Something I saw was the lovely view of Philip Island beach. I remember when I told my friends to keep on going higher to encourage them to have the time of year 6 because this will be the last year that we all might be in the same school. Overall camps activities were rating 7.5/10.

Gurman

The funniest moment at camp was when Alanna, Lana, Olivia, Jasmin, Seerat, Liesel and I woke up to someone ding dong ditching our door AT 6AM IN THE MORNING, so we all went to Chris And Ryan cabin to wake them up and tell them about that and the funny thing was when Chris woke up first and we all got scared because we couldn’t see his face when he opened the door so i shined the flashlight in his face and after his eyes bulged open and that all made us laugh.
