Year 3-6

Japanese House

Year 3 to 6 students have been learning about “Japanese House”. We looked at some photos and talked about the difference between Japanese and Australian houses, naming some areas within the house in Japanese. Students should be able to tell you about some unique aspects of Japanese houses!

Songs

Through singing songs in Japanese, students also practiced how to count small animals and solid/long items, different sizes, body parts, colours, days of the week and hobbies. 

Hiragana reading

We have been focusing on reading Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) cards for the last few weeks. Each student is encouraged to read as much as they can, as they are all trying very hard. It’s been great to see their progress!

Year 1-2

Things around the classroom

Year 1 and 2 students have been learning about “Things around the classroom”, studying objects such as rubber, pencil, ruler and scissors in Japanese. We talked about what kinds of stationary are popular in Japan, and students then wrote some words and drew pictures to reinforce their meaning. Students designed their own pencil, rubber, scissors and ruler!

They have an opportunity to pronounce the word individually or indicate likes and dislikes during drawing time. Students have been very keen to participate and get a special Japanese stamp for their good effort.

Songs

Through singing songs in Japanese, students have practiced greetings, body parts, some shapes, big and small, animals, colours and how to count people.

Origami Year 1-6

We made Origami (paper folding) turtle, purse/wallet, box and frog. 

Foundation

Foundation students have continued to practice greetings, counting, how to introduce themselves, colours, animals, big/small and body parts through songs in Japanese. They have also been learning how to read Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) cards. We have finished 35 cards out of 64. We are more than halfway! 

Students have learnt some names for classroom items such as pencil, rubber and scissors in Japanese. 

Origami (paper folding) is always a popular activity. Recently, we have made a piano, purse/wallet and love heart. They all love Origami!
