Senior School

As we commence school holidays, it’s time to reflect on the many memorable events and achievements that have taken place at our College during the closing weeks of Term 3. Here’s a recap of some of the recent highlights.

Year 9 Camp

Our Year 9 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure during their camp at the Charnwood Outdoor Education Centre in the Strathbogie State Forest. The camp provided a fantastic opportunity for students to reinforce longlasting friendships, develop teamwork skills, and immerse themselves in the beauty of the great outdoors. Year 11 Formal

We celebrated with Year 11 students at a Formal Dinner on Friday 1 September, where students and staff, dressed to impress, had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful evening together in a social setting.  Click here for one student’s reflection and photos.

EISM Cross Country

Our talented athletes showcased their endurance and determination at the EISM Cross Country event. Their hard work and dedication paid off, and we are incredibly proud of their outstanding performances. Click here for all the results and photos.

Year 8 and 9 IT Excursions

On 11 and 15 September, Year 8 and 9 students had the privilege of visiting the Yarra Ranges Tech School. These excursions allowed them to explore cutting-edge technology and gain valuable insights into the world of IT. It was a hands-on experience that will surely inspire our future tech leaders.

Parent Teacher Interviews

We would like to express our gratitude to all the parents and guardians who attended the face-to-face Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday 7 September, as well as those who participated in the online sessions on Wednesday 13 September. Your involvement and support are essential for your child's success.

Wellbeing Week and RUOK Day

Wellbeing is a priority at Oxley, and this term, we celebrated Wellbeing Week with various events throughout the week. As part of this initiative, we observed RUOK Day on Thursday 14 September. It was a day dedicated to promoting open conversations about mental health and checking in on one another. Remember, it’s okay not to be okay, and reaching out can make a world of difference. Year 12 Practice Exams and Revision Sessions

Looking ahead to the upcoming holidays, we want to remind our Year 12 students about the Year 12 Practice Exams and revision sessions. These sessions will run during the second week of the holidays, from Monday 25 through to Thursday 28 September. This is a crucial time for our most senior students to prepare for the final leg of their Oxley journey, and we encourage them to make the most of this opportunity.

As we conclude Term 3, we want to express our gratitude to all students, staff, and parents for your hard work and dedication. We look forward to the exciting challenges and achievements that Term 4 will bring. Have a safe and restful holiday break, and we can’t wait to see you all back for the final term of the year.

Term 4 Uniform

The Summer uniform is to be worn in Term 4, including the blazer, which must be worn when travelling to and from school, unless a blazer free afternoon is announced when the weather is extreme. It would be appreciated if parents could use the holiday break to check hair length, earrings worn by girls, and girls’ summer dresses are at the correct length, with the hem to the bottom of the knee. Students are also required to wear their hats in Term 4. Please refer to pages 12-13 of the 2023 Student Diary for details of the Student Uniform Standards.

Finding Rest and Respite in God

Keeping up with the hustle and bustle of our daily lives has emerged as a recurring theme in Term 3. As we strive to keep up with the various demands on our time, it is important to search for moments of rest and seek solace from fleeting distractions that leave us feeling weary and burdened.

In times like these, it’s essential to remember where true rest and respite are found. In Psalm 62:1, we are reminded,

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.

These words hold a profound truth that can bring peace to our weary hearts. God, in His infinite wisdom and boundless love, invites us to find rest in Him. He offers us sanctuary and a place of refuge where we can lay down our burdens, worries, and weariness. When the world overwhelms us, and life’s challenges seem insurmountable, we can always turn to Him.

As we go about our busy lives, let us not forget to pause and seek God’s rest. In prayer, in meditation on His word, in moments of stillness, we can find the rest and respite our souls long for.

Let us cast our anxieties upon Him, for He cares for us. 1 Peter 5:7

In His embrace, we discover true rest—rest for our bodies, minds, and spirits.
