Year 10 SPAN Excursion to an NBL Training Session

On Tuesday 5 September, the Year 10 SPAN (Sports Analysis) class, participated in a basketball day out at the State Basketball Centre. We all travelled together on a bus to Wantirna. Once we got there, we met up with the South East Melbourne Phoenix’s, professional NBL players. They were there to teach us about valuable basketball skills, ways to improve teamwork and we had the opportunity to sharpen our ability to play the game. It was really interesting to see how they prepared during pre-season and also how they play the game, as it was very different to just watching the game on TV. Our star player, Damo Jayasinghe (10.2), says that he “loved learning from the players, how they worked together and communicated”. Honourable student, Andrew Barker (10.2), states that he “loves meeting the players and talking to them and getting to know them”. Matilda Hindson (10.3) says, “It was a privilege to be able to meet the players and experience how elite athletes train during preseason”. After the Basketballers finished practice, they made their way towards us and allowed us to ask them some questions. They even asked us questions back. I then asked the athletes important questions about their diet, motivation and other factors affecting their life. All in all, it was a very fun and exhilarating experience, and it was a really fun way to end off the term.
