Mooroolbark District Athletics Competition

On Wednesday 23 August, we took 47 students from Years 3-6 to compete at the Mooroolbark District Athletics competition. Students were chosen based on their results from our Year 3-6 House Athletics competition in Term 1. With fantastic weather, students set out to jump, leap, throw and run to the best of their abilities to try and earn a top two finish and progress to the Yarra Division Athletics Competition.

The following students successfully finished either first or second in an event and qualified for the Yarra Division Athletics in Term 4. Congratulations to all students for your efforts on the day!

Year 5-6 Sport: Ultimate Frisbee Tournament

Throughout Term 3, students in Years 5-6 have competed in an ultimate frisbee tournament at Oxley. Students were separated into six teams at the start of the term and participated in games each Friday to determine final ladder positions.

The aim of this unit was for it to be a student led competition. When a student’s team wasn’t scheduled to play, they were rostered on a duty group to complete jobs such as umpiring, scoring, statistician, media team or leadership team. It was fantastic to see students grow in leadership as they experienced different elements of sport.

In the final week, we held the Grand Final. The Pink Panthers (4th on the Ladder) and Da Minions (3rd on the Ladder) both progressed through to the semi and preliminary finals, please enjoy the write-up from our media team below.

This is it, the moment we were all waiting for. One game to crown our 2023 Ultimate Frisbee Champion.

Through the first half, there was a tense feeling in the air with Da Minions up 2-1, scoring the first two touchdowns of the match. The Pink Panthers managed to score just before half time to close the gap. In the last 5 minutes, the Panthers scored twice to send the game into overtime!

In overtime, 4 students were selected to represent each team. The Panthers scored first through Kaiden, but Kobi made a quick reply to tie the scores once more.

The highlight of the game was the incredible intercept from Kobi to deny a Panther touchdown.

Jessica Sia: “Closest game I have EVER seen!”

Congratulations to the Pink Panthers for an epic Grand Final win. We also want to thank our Grand Final duty team, selected by staff and students, for excelling in their roles throughout the term.
