Report from Assistant Principal Years Yr 7/8

Dear Westall SC community,

Well, Term 3 has flown by and we are just starting to see some lovely Spring weather creeping in, just in time for the holiday period. 

I am pleased to announce we have 70 students enrolling into Year 7 for 2027. We commence their Transition over Term 4 and I look forward to welcoming them to Westall during our Orientation Day and Welcome Night next Term.

Upcoming events in Term 4:

• Year 7 Welcome Night (Year 7s of 2027): We are looking forward to welcoming our new Year 7s at our Welcome Night on Tuesday 17th November 2026, from 6.00pm. This is an opportunity to find out more information regarding your child or young person’s transition to Westall SC, including booklists, uniform, key contacts ect. If you have a child already in the school and you have another child enrolling next year into Year 7, we still encourage you to come along to this session to help support a successful transition to Secondary School. 

   

• Year 7 Orientation Day (Year 7s of 2027) will take place on the 8th December, 2026. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new students and parents of the College, and we look forward to making the transition for their son, daughter or young person a positive and supportive experience. 

Course Selection:

I would like to congratulate all our Year 7 and Year 8 students for the mature and thoughtful approach they demonstrated throughout the Term 3 course selection process for 2027.

Our Year 7 students have selected their iCreate subject for Year 8, while our Year 8 cohort has taken an exciting step forward by choosing both their Year 9 Elective and their iCreate subject for next year.

As our students progress toward Senior School, they will enjoy increasing autonomy over their learning pathways. With greater choice comes deeper reflection; in the coming years, subject selection will involve navigating prerequisites, aligning choices with personal strengths, and planning for post-school destinations. Seeing our Junior School students take ownership of their education this term gives us great confidence in their ability to make informed, ambitious choices for their futures.

Parent and carer support is essential in guiding young people through these important choices. As pathway decisions become more detailed in the years ahead, open conversations at home help align student aspirations with future opportunities. Please look out for our upcoming parent/carer information sessions in 2027 and explore our Subject Handbooks, which are available to all students in our student UFO website.

Headstart 2026:

The Headstart Program at Westall is the point in the academic year where we shift focus from the current year to next year. It provides students with an opportunity to commence new subjects for 2027 and get a small taste of what they will look like. 

Please keep in mind the below dates:

• Last day of school for Year 10s and Year 11s is the 4th December 2026.

• Last day of school for Year 7s-Year 9s is the 17th December 2026, however academic classes will finish on the 11th December, followed by 4 days of activities.
