Report from Middle School Assistant Principal

As we move towards the end of Term 3, it has been wonderful to see our Year 9 and 10 students increasingly focused on their future and the opportunities that lie ahead. Across the Middle School, students have been working thoughtfully through the process of selecting and finalising their 2027 programs, engaging in conversations about their interests, strengths, aspirations and future pathways.

I have been particularly impressed by the way many students have approached these conversations with greater maturity and ownership. Choosing subjects and pathways is an important part of a student's secondary schooling journey, and we want our students to understand not only what they are choosing, but why they are making those choices. Whether students are considering VCE, the Vocational Major, VET, university pathways, apprenticeships, employment or other future opportunities, we are encouraging them to think broadly and make informed decisions that reflect their individual goals and interests.

Reporting and Assessment - Progress Reports

Our teaching staff have also been hard at work completing our next round of Progress Reports, which will be released to families via Compass late week ten. These reports provide valuable information about each student's current academic progress and engagement at school.

We encourage families to take the opportunity to discuss the information in the report with their young person. Progress reporting is an important part of the partnership between school, students and families, helping us to celebrate successes, identify areas for growth and support students to take the next steps in their learning.

Student Representative Council

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of our Student Representative Council (SRC) members throughout 2026. Our SRC students have contributed their ideas, perspectives and voices to our school community and have demonstrated the importance of student agency in shaping school life.

We are now looking ahead to our 2027 SRC, with applications and position descriptions opening soon. We encourage students who are passionate about making a difference, representing their peers and contributing positively to Westall Secondary College to consider applying.

I look forward to seeing many of our current and emerging student leaders put themselves forward and continuing to strengthen student voice and agency across our Middle School in 2027.

Year 12 VTAC Reminder

A reminder to all our Year 12 students that your VTAC applications and preferences need to be finalised by 28 September. This is an important step in securing your preferred pathway for 2027.

If you are unsure about your course preferences, pathways or next steps, please make the most of the support available through our Careers and Pathways Team. They are here to provide guidance; answer questions and help you make informed decisions about your future.

We encourage all Year 12 students to seek support early and ensure their preferences accurately reflect their aspirations and future goals.

As we head into the Term 3 break, I would like to wish all of our students, families and staff a safe, relaxing and well-deserved break. I hope everyone has the opportunity to recharge and enjoy some time away from the routines of school.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 4 and finishing the year strongly, with a continued focus on learning, engagement, pathways and supporting every student to achieve their goals.
