Westall Secondary College
iCreate Aviation Excursion
Students from Westall Secondary College's iCreate Aviation program recently headed out on an excursion to Moorabbin Airport and the Moorabbin Air Museum. The day gave students a hands-on look at how a working airport actually functions, along with the chance to see a wide range of aircraft up close and learn about the rich history of aviation in Australia. After an engaging morning exploring the airfield and museum exhibits, students stopped at DFO Moorabbin for lunch before heading back to school. A great day out for the iCreate Aviation students, combining real-world learning with hands-on exposure to the aviation industry!

Aim High Melbourne Museum Excursion
On Wednesday 2nd September, the Aim High students visited the Melbourne Museum. During their visit, they got to experience the Melbourne Exhibit and see the Triceratops! This is the most intact and complete skeleton in the world, and our students got to see it firsthand.
Students then got the opportunity to walk through the Rome Exhibition. They learned about the Roman Empire’s beginnings and everyday life for its citizens. We even got to see how our calendar was established, and where the months of July and August get their names.
The students had a great day out and were able to interact with histories ranging from millions of years ago to the early 20th century. This will aid our students in their Aim High projects, which will be presented during the Headstart period at the end of Term 4. Keep an eye out for the date! Thank you to Ms Nadia, Mr Tran and Ms P for taking our students on this learning opportunity.

RUOK Day
Year 11 Out of the Shadows Walk to Keeley Park
On Wednesday 9th September, our Year 11 VCE students took part in the Out of the Shadows Walk to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. Students walked a total of 9km, doing laps around the park before enjoying a delicious sausage sizzle cooked up by our very own Sophie Hart.
The walk was organised by both students and staff and was proposed by Year 11 student Ghibran Deddy. Well done Ghibran on supporting your community and peers!
The Year 11s had an excellent day in the sun and the event raised almost $500 for Lifeline in gold coin donations for the Free Dress Day that accompanied it. What an amazing effort for an important cause!

What can I learn?
SINGING, BASS GUITAR, DRUMS, KEYBOARDS/PIANO, CLARINET, FLUTE & SAXOPHONE.
If you are interested in having instrumental lessons as school, talk to Mr Coco and he will talk to you about any questions you may have. The lesson time changes each week, so you don’t miss out on the same class every time. Lesson times are 35 minutes in duration.
Lesson fees are $120 for the year and an extra $100 for instrument hire. (For Drums, guitar/bass guitar or Piano/ Keyboard instrumental hire does not apply). If you are eligible for the CSEF (if your parents/guardians) have a Health Care Card, you don’t have to pay these fees. If you are unsure, ask Mr Tran at the front office.
Instrumental music enrolment forms may be collected from the front office or from Mr Coco or Mrs Mcalister (Instrumental Music room).

Education Support Staff Morning tea
Thank you to those who were able to join us for our belated Education Support celebration. It was lovely to have the chance to stop for a little while, share some food and recognise our amazing ES team. This was a way to recognise and thank staff for what they do each day.
I did a little bit of reading about the history of Education Support Day. In Victoria, Education Support staff have been formally recognised for around 25 years, it started as Victorian ES Week, then National Support Staff Week, and eventually became part of the worldwide World Education Support Personnel Day, which is what we currently celebrate.
The original purpose was not only about recognition, but about professional respect and acknowledging the skill and value of the many different roles that make a school work.
One thing that I read from this history of ES day that resonated with me is:
It takes a whole education workforce to educate the whole student.
I think that sums up our school and our ES team beautifully.
Thank you to all of you for everything you contribute to our school and our students. Your work is recognised, it is valued and it is genuinely appreciated.
