Year 2 News

How quickly is Term 2 flying by? We are already in Week 8, and our classrooms are still buzzing with learning, growth and excitement. We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing long weekend.

As thinkers, we reflected on Reconciliation Week and what it means for us. We engaged in the Thinking Routine, ‘Symbol, Colour, Image’ while listening to a passage about Australia's First Nations Peoples. This encouraged us to make connections and represent our thinking in meaningful ways. We also explored the purpose and importance of an Acknowledgement of Country. After examining a variety of examples and analysing the language and symbols used, each class worked collaboratively to create our own Acknowledgement of Country.

As mathematicians, we learnt about length and explored what it means to measure something. We engaged in a variety of hands-on tasks that gave us experience using informal units, such as counters, paper clips, pop sticks and Unifix blocks, to measure different objects. We compared and ordered lengths and analysed which unit would be the best fit for measuring particular items. Through these investigations, we discovered the importance of using consistent units when measuring. To finish our learning, we had fun creating our own rulers using informal units and challenged ourselves to measure different objects around the classroom.

In TRP, we reflected on gratitude and what it means to be truly thankful. We discussed the many things we can be grateful for and challenged ourselves to think beyond the possessions we have. Instead, we explored the people, relationships and experiences that make our lives special and that we are lucky enough to share. Through rich discussions, we discovered that gratitude can come from simple moments, acts of kindness and the time we spend with others. We then created our own gratitude bags and have begun filling them with pictures and reminders of the people, places and experiences we are grateful for. Have a look on our school’s instagram for post about 2NA’s gratitude bags.
