Staff Update

We are both excited, and a little sad, to let you know that we are having some staffing changes at HEPS towards the end of this term.

Emma Austin is on a 12-month temporary transfer to Rangeview Primary School. This is a great opportunity for Emma to engage with another school's practice and further grow her own skills. Emma will be working three days per week at HEPS and two days per week at Rangeview until the end of term, then full time at Rangeview for 12 months. We wish Emma well.

Two staff are leaving us shortly to begin family leave. We wish both Ruby Whitfield and Jen Ross well as they welcome new additions to their families.

We are excited to welcome Sun Pezzimenti to HEPS as our music teacher, and Ally How as our new sustainability teacher.  They will both begin in term 3 and hope they enjoy being part of the HEPS community. We will continue to look for the best fit teacher to take over Jen's part time position in Year 5.

Professional Learning- Writing

On Thursday during our student free day, our staff participated in a whole day of professional learning with writing consultant Narissa Leung from Oz Lit Teacher. Narissa explored the 6+1 Writing Traits framework, with a particular focus on developing students' ideas and improving word choice in writing. She also highlighted the importance of using mentor texts and explicit teaching practices to support student growth as writers. Staff found the sessions highly engaging and practical, and gained many valuable strategies to use in their classrooms.

Student Reports

We will be providing Semester 1 student achievement reports this year as usual. Reports will be distributed on Thursday 25 June at 4.00pm. The reports will continue to provide important information about student learning achievement; however, full descriptive comments may not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union. We will, of course, be pleased to discuss your child’s progress at our three-way conferences scheduled for Term 3. As always you are also welcome to contact your child’s teacher at any time to arrange a meeting.

Thank you to all the HEPS community for attending our Open Night last week. Families enjoyed the very popular cake stall, book fair, choir performances, and wonderful student music performances throughout the evening. It was also fantastic to see the fun activities taking place across all classrooms.

Green Thumbs

Last week at assembly, our Green Thumbs students were proudly awarded their badges. The Green Thumbs program recognises students who help care for and improve our school environment through gardening, sustainability initiatives, and promoting environmental responsibility across the school. Congratulations to all students who received their badges.

Last week, a number of HEPS students represented the school at the District Cross Country event held at Quambee Reserve. Students competed in slippery and wet conditions, showing great determination and resilience throughout their races. We are proud of all students for trying their best and representing the school so positively.

Building works

As previously communicated, we are on track for the old Administration Building to be demolished during the upcoming school holidays. This week, the Administration Building is being hoarded off with plywood fencing. This is temporarily changing pedestrian access routes and reducing access to the netball court area until after the holidays.

Half of the staff car park is now closed for construction works, while the remaining half is being used to create a safe pathway to the Level 4–6 playground and access to the new Administration Building. A temporary pathway has also been established from the Level 4–6 playground to the ramp and steps from Louis Street. In addition, a temporary accessible pathway is being installed from the Gym to the Administration Building.

The Cottage (old music room) will be fully demolished during the school holidays.

Due to the tight timeline, asbestos removal works will occur after hours once the hoarding has been installed.
