Level 5

Writing
This week, Level 5 have started exploring persuasive writing and the techniques involved with this genre. Students have looked at the use of colours, product positioning, and emotive language amongst other techniques. They have started to create their their own ideas, where they have tried to market and sell an item e.g rotten apple. Students have spent time on developing their ideas and being able to write quick, yet short texts.
Maths
We have been exploring Multiplication and Division, including the different methods for formal processes and visual models e.g Area Model. Students have also learnt about the Lattice method which involves setting up multiplication problems through a visual model of positioning and place value. How to multiply decimals and fractions has also been the focus, with our attention turning to Division this week.
Inquiry
This term, Level 5 students have beeen exploring concepts about Economics and Business. This week, students commenced working in groups, where they are coming up with and creating their own business. Students have to work collaboratively in their teams and create a product that addresses a problem. They have to create a print ad, prototype, logo/symbol for their business, slogan and product in readiness for a Shark Tank experience.
