Level 2

2YS Yasi Shayesteh, 2KH Kim Holmes, 2ES Elizabeth Seymour

What a fantastic fortnight it has been in Level 2! A highlight for many of our students was our amazing Open Night, where students proudly shared their classrooms and school to their families. It was wonderful to showcase our school and see so many happy, smiling faces at HEPS at nighttime.

Our Literacy learning

The last fortnight has seen our students writing narrative stories in Literacy. They have been learning about interesting ways to engage the reader by using character descriptions, settings, complications, and resolutions. We have seen students begin to revise and edit their drafts and use a variety of punctuation. We have also been learning about thick and thin (open and closed) questioning and why we need to learn this type of questioning to support reading more difficult texts. Students have become very good at recognizing the different types of questions. Students continue to learn common words and spelling patterns in spelling. We are using a sound board to support us in spelling and recognizing commonalities between words. We practice writing many of our words on dotted thirds handwriting lines.

Math

Students have learned about money, adding money, and calculating change. They even designed their own shop and experimented with buying and selling some items with plastic play money. A highlight for all!

Take-home reading

Students continue to be expected to read their reader at home every night. We have provided some questions, called traffic light questions, to support comprehension. Reading at home regularly helps to support fluency, comprehension and confidence.
