Level 1

What a fantastic fortnight it has been in Level 1! A highlight for many of our students was our amazing Open Night, where students proudly shared their fable puppets, creative backdrops and storytelling. It was wonderful to celebrate the creativity, effort and enthusiasm our students have shown across their learning.
Reading and Writing
In Reading, students continued their exploration of fables and inferring and began investigating persuasive language in Writing. Through stories such as Stone Soup, students practised making predictions, inferring character feelings and identifying the moral of the story. In Writing, students formed and justified opinions, practised using stronger vocabulary and began recording their ideas with the intention of changing someone else's mind. We are so proud of the thoughtful discussions and growing confidence students showed when sharing and justifying their opinions.
Maths
In Maths students have investigated patterns and location (including maps, directions and positional language). They created and explained repeating and growing patterns, practised skip counting, and used their knowledge to explore open-ended pattern problems. Students used playdough 'treasure island' maps and Bee-Bots to give and follow directions. They showed strong problem-solving skills and teamwork throughout these hands-on learning experiences.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, students explored fairness, respect and culture through the book The Great Race which explores the history and tradition of the Chinese Zodiac. We had lots of great discussions about fair and unfair choices, how characters might have felt, and what respectful actions look like. Students also learned about zodiac animals, compared Chinese New Year celebrations with their own traditions, and loved discovering fun facts about real animals through nonfiction texts!
We are so proud of the effort, curiosity and positivity our students have brought to their learning this fortnight!
