Camp Weekaway (AKA, the most fun camp ever!)

Last week, as you know, our crew packed our bags, our sleeping bags, our favourite toys and our pillows and headed off to Benloch. After we arrived we settled into our cabins, ate some lunch, and then we tested our problem-solving skills and worked together in teams to complete a series of initiative activities. Many of these stumped adults and students alike but it was brilliant to see the resilience and persistence of our teams.

That night, after dinner, we took it in turns to gather as a class around the campfire, sing songs together, roast marshmallows and make the delicious camp staple food - s'mores!

Over the next few days, we were lucky enough to try many different activities that we may not have experienced before such as canoeing, the Glider Possum, an amazing flying fox, damper cooking and a mix of games in a giant maze! Seeing children supporting their friends, encouraging everyone and being brave at every opportunity was amazing.

We hope that your child/ren came home on Friday, ready for a shower, some dinner and an early night as we certainly did! Thank you for your support in allowing them to be independent and resilient for the days we were away. You would have all been very proud!

Literacy

To capture all our camp memories, we spent some time on our return remembering all the fun times and putting them into a recount to be published. We focused on writing traits such as organisation (in a recount, the focus was to retell the events in chronological order) and word choice (to try and capture the emotions we were experiencing).

We have been continuing to work on our persuasive writing, putting everything we have learned this term together to construct some complete pieces from start to finish. Get ready for some persuasive arguments at home!

To tie in our Reading and Writing lessons, we have started reading and analysing some poetry in Reading lessons. We have had some fun with quirky limericks and look forward to writing our own later in the term.

Maths

Maths is all about fractions at the moment! We have been investigating number lines, equivalent fractions, as well as trying to learn all the tricky language around fractions, such as numerator and denominator. It has been fun to include a mix of hands on learning, digital learning and written work.

Digital Technology - Cyber Safety Project

This week, the Level 4 students explored what it means to be a bystander or an upstander in relation to online behaviour. They identified the different actions and behaviours associated with each role and discussed when it is appropriate to act as a bystander or step up as an upstander.

Recently, the Level 4 students have been learning about help-seeking strategies and behaviours through the Respectful Relationships program. This week we have begun Topic 7: Gender norms and stereotypes. If you would like to know more about the lessons that will be covered, you can access them in the PDF below.
